Remember when we said that the drive to Mesa Verde was long? We were wrong. Driving through New Mexico was an exhausting and brutal drive. We stopped in Albuquerque for lunch at a brewery, and drove through Roswell. Roswell was not quite as depicted in cartoons.
After entering the caverns through the natural entrance, we walked a mile below the surface to visit Kings Palace, where 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea was filmed. Our guide explained to us that there were not enough rocks in the cave for Hollywood, so they brought their own fake plastic rocks for props.
